In Tanzania, WhatsApp is where business happens. Connecting it properly to your website turns visitors into conversations, and conversations into sales. Here is how.

1. Add a click-to-chat button

A link in the format https://wa.me/255XXXXXXXXX opens a WhatsApp chat with your number. Place it on every page – ideally as a floating button on mobile.

2. Pre-fill the first message

Add text to the link so customers do not have to type, for example https://wa.me/255XXXXXXXXX?text=Hello%2C%20I%20want%20a%20quote. Use different messages on different pages so you know what each customer is interested in.

3. Use WhatsApp Business features

  • Business profile with address, hours and website.
  • Catalogue showing products and prices.
  • Quick replies for common questions.
  • Labels to track new leads, paid orders and follow-ups.
  • Greeting and away messages.

4. Send people back to your website

Share links to specific product or service pages instead of long explanations. Your website does the selling; WhatsApp closes the deal.

5. Do not rely on WhatsApp alone

Use professional email for quotations, invoices and contracts, and keep your website as the place customers can always find you – even if a phone is lost or an account is restricted.

6. Measure it

Track how many chats come from your website and which pages drive them. Improve the pages that bring the most enquiries.
