When you buy hosting you receive a cPanel login – and a screen full of icons. This beginner's guide to cPanel explains the tools you will actually use.

What is cPanel?

cPanel is the most widely used hosting control panel. It lets you manage your website, email, domains, databases, security and backups through a simple web interface, without using server commands.

The cPanel tools you will use most

Email Accounts

Create addresses like info@yourbusiness.co.tz, set passwords and storage limits, and open webmail. Then set it up on your phone using our phone email guide.

File Manager

Upload, edit and organise your website files in the browser. Your main website lives in the public_html folder.

Softaculous Apps Installer

Install WordPress and hundreds of other applications in a few clicks.

Domains

Add extra domains or subdomains such as shop.yourbusiness.co.tz, and force HTTPS.

SSL/TLS Status

Check your free SSL certificate and run AutoSSL. See how to fix "Not Secure".

MySQL Databases and phpMyAdmin

Create and manage databases for WordPress and custom applications.

Backup

Download a full or partial backup of your site and email.

Zone Editor

Edit DNS records such as A, CNAME, MX and TXT. Learn more in What Is DNS?

Metrics

See visitor statistics, bandwidth and errors.

Safety tips

  • Use a strong cPanel password and never share it by SMS or WhatsApp.
  • Take a backup before big changes.
  • Delete unused email accounts and old website copies.
